iRobot at a Construction Site Near You

Robots are being designed to perform specific construction tasks using a variety of materials with the aim of automating constructions tasks such as stacking nonstandard arrangements. So reports the Architect's Newspaper.

The technology is in development by Gramazio Kohler Research. Automation is intended to simplify tasks at job sites, enhance safety by not having crews in dangerous areas such as mines, and to reduce health risks. The research is a collaboration of the ETH Domain—a network of universities in Zurich, Switzerland and other independent institutions to develop new technologies. Their goal is to examine the changes in architectural production requirements that come about when digital manufacturing techniques are introduced.
