Los Angeles officials issued orders to the owners of approximately 1,500 at-risk concrete buildings to determine if their buildings will require retrofitting. So reports the Los Angeles Times.
According to some experts, there is a 60% chance of a magnitude 6.7 earthquake in the next 30 years and some fear it could strike before all the vulnerable buildings have been retrofitted, per a recent law.
Wood apartment buildings with “flimsy” first floors have also been ordered to be strengthened. Property owners are on the hook to pay for the retrofitting with no public subsidies available.
