Adding graphene to concrete can make it substantially stronger, reducing the amount needed for projects and, ultimately, cut down on greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of concrete. So reports NBC News.
Scientists in the U.K. developed a "green" concrete compound and are saying it is more durable than, and twice as strong as, traditional concrete. Producing cement, a chief ingredient in concrete, accounts for 5% of all global emissions of carbon dioxide.
The material is also more water-resistant and elastic. However, questions about the cost of grapheme and its potential environmental impacts remain.
