New York City construction workers enjoyed a spike in wages last year unlike any seen since 2007. So reports the Commercial Observer.
Average annual wages rose 5.4% to $80,200 up from $76,100 from 2015-2016. In 2007, wages rose 6.4% percent.
The highest-earning workers, though, actually sustained a dip in annual average pay, with "heavy" construction workers and civil engineers dipping to $116,800 per year from $119,200. New York City created 146,200 construction jobs last year, up 5% from 2015.
A report from the New York Building Congress predicts construction employment will grow again in 2017.
