When thinking about bringing in a custom training team, you’ll want to make sure their trainers are certified through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Also look for trainers with advanced degrees in the topics of relevance to your business. Of course, you'll want to see that the trainings they provide are OSHA-compliant.

Also, be sure to ask for references and follow-through on checking them. Inquire about how the training made a difference in their workflow: Did they see a reduction in specific injuries? Greater compliance for using safety gear? Improvement in morale? Ask questions important to your training needs and goals.

Before you sign-up with any custom training service, be sure they take the time to assess and get to know your risk needs, organizational culture, and the strengths and weaknesses of your past/current training programs. The trainers should want to gain an understanding of your employee demographics, too. This helps ensure that the needs of more experienced team members are just as well addressed as the needs of less experienced employees.

Also, demographics can provide information about adult learning styles, which shift as people age. Some types of training classes will be suitable to mixed-level employees and other training will be more appropriate for entry-level workers, instructed separately from supervisory-level employees.
