Southern Construction Boom Has a High Cost for Workers

They’re building a better South with a boom in construction this year, but workers are paying the price. So reports OH&S.

A new report highlights the poor wages (less than $15 per hour) and working conditions in six southern cities that are experiencing construction growth, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Dallas, Miami and Nashville.

Workplace injuries, bare minimum safety processes, lack of sufficient medical coverage, and low wages are key issues cited. Participants in the research include workers from commercial, residential, and heavy construction worksites.
