The Bayonne Bridge is a major artery connecting Staten Island, N.Y., North Jersey and the greater NYC area. So reports The News & Observer.

The Bridge, originally constructed in 1932, also expands across Newark Bay where cargo ships need to pass through. The project is running 25% over, jumping from $1.3 billion to $1.7 billion due to the difficult steel reinforcement work and local community concerns that needed to be addressed. The project now dictates a road be built 64 feet above the existing road to allow vehicles to continue to use of the lower span.
