Pushing the boundaries of micro-housing is BriteSpace, a custom home for under $225K that is delivered in the mail.

The brainchild of Avava Systems, the units range from 264 to 480 sq. ft. and arrive in flat-packed boxes. All of the units contain a living area, kitchen, bathroom and closet.

Unlike a purchase from Ikea, though, customers will need to hire local professional builders to assemble their new home. The appeal? For builders, it allows a prefab home to be built without the cost of transporting between the manufacturer and the customer’s destination.

For tree-huggers averse to living on McMansion Street, the high-quality, efficient and sustainable flat-packed house has its appeal.
